Historical Essay

During the time frame of 1775-1783 there was a very historical war taking place. There was one of the most important wars going on and that war was called the Revolutionary war. This war began by colonists that did not agree with King George lll and decided to declare their own independence and become their own nation. Of course the king wasn’t happy about that and made them fight for their freedom thus resulting in the war known as the revolutionary war.
This war resulted in unfortunately thousands of deaths on both sides of the war. At least they died for the things they believed in even if they were right or wrong. Approximately 50,000 American troops died in battle and 19,700 sailors were lost on the British side. 100,000’s people came to fight and entered the battlefield for this war risking their lives some troops never got to leave the battlefield alive. But if they did get shot and survived then they did have as they call now paramedics to take care of the ill.
But back then they were called nurses, which were females. Since females could not join the war at that time they could choose to be a nurse to take care of the ill. Bullets were made of led so if someone got shot they had a good possibility to get led poisoning and die. So the nurses job was to remove (amputate) the wounded area before the infection spreads. Not a very pleasant job in my opinion but someone had to do it.
In the end, even with the disadvantages with the number of troops the American side won. Which made the United States of America (Land of the free), with our first president being George Washington, who was the commander-in-chief for the Americans side in the Rev. War. If they weren’t brave people to stand up for what they believe in we would not be the USA today. So I commemorate all the brave soldiers who died and the ones that lived to tell on their story. Thank you for most of peoples freedom in America. (American Revolutionary War)
