Lying is Wrong
Usually if someone lies, the person can get into more problems. It could go from better to worse if you lie about certain things. Just like Eli in this story he lies about how he was admitted to the school when he really wasn’t. Also when you lie it can affect the people that you lied to. For example Eli lied to his dad that he got in so he had high expectations for him to go to the school where all his family went for generations. It’s always better to come clean so in the end it doesn’t get worse.
To begin with, I think the meaning of this story is not to let a lie go for so long. For example Eli waited last minute to tell them the truth and then it was too late, since they were already at the school. If you lie but then come clean for not that long then it will be more honorable then waiting last minute. Because if you do you might just not tell and may be living with that lie since they think it’s the truth.
The mode of literature in this story is Comedy, because it starts with a normal day life. But the conflict arises when Eli gets a letter for his parents talking about how he is not accepted to that school so he tore the note up. Conflict is realized when they are in the cafeteria and he sees the doctor walking to his parents so Eli walks away. Resolution occurs when he admits to his parents what he did. In the end Eli was back to his ordinary life.
This story could probably relate to a lot of people if they read this story. Since a lot of people lie and sometimes they don’t realize how much they do it. People can also lie about small things that could have been accepted but was not since they lied about it.
In conclusion, this story has a lot of meaning. That a lot of people can relate to easily. The author has put this story into a 3rd person narrative. The mode of literature is comedy in “The Lie”. So How far would you go to hide the truth?
